Discipline guidelines issued by the Directorate of Education under Goa School Education rules 1986
Discipline, punishment etc. –
- The observance of rules of discipline and good behaviour shall be a condition essential to a student’s continuance in a school.
- In case of breach of discipline by a student below the age of 14 years, if the Director is satisfied that continuance of such a student in the school in which he is studying, is likely to be detrimental to the general tenor or discipline of the school, he may send such a student to such special school as he may think fit.
Striking off the name from the rolls. –
- The name of a student may be struck off the rolls by the head of the school on account of:
- Non-payment of fees and other dues wherever applicable, for 90 days, after the last day for payment: Provided that nothing in this rule shall apply, in case of students of class XII and below studying in Government or aided schools, or in schools run or aided by the appropriate authority.
- Continued absence without leave for 30 consecutive days by a student who has attained the age of 14 years on the re-opening day of the scholastic year.
- The student’s name shall be struck off the rolls, after giving the parent or guardian of such student a reasonable opportunity of showing cause against the proposed action.
Forbidden practices. –
- No student shall indulge in any of the following practices namely:
- spitting in or near the school building, except where the spitting is made in any spitton provided by the school,
- disfiguring or otherwise damaging any school property,
- smoking,
- any form of gambling,
- use of drugs, liquor or intoxicant, except on prescription by a registered medical practitioner,
- rowdyism and rude behaviour,
- use of violence in any form,
- casteism, communalism or practice of untouchability.
- ragging,
- pupils who are found to have secured, admission or attempted to secure admissions by means of false or forged leaving certificates or by false representations of any kind;
- pupils in whose case it has been found that the entries in the leaving certificates have been tampered with;
- pupils who have been found to be guilty of fraud or malpractices in connection with any public/school examination; and
- pupils who are found guilty of gross misconduct;
Forms of disciplinary measures. –
- The following disciplinary measures will be adopted by the school in dealing with –
- in case of defaulting students, detention during the break, for neglect of class work, but no detention will be made after the school hours but however there will not be any corporal punishment.
- in case of students who have attained the age of 14 years
- expulsion,
- rustication.
- Expulsion shall debar a student from being re-admitted to the school from where he is expelled, but shall not preclude his admission with the previous sanction of the Director to any other school,
- Where a student is rusticated, he shall not be admitted to any school till expiry of the period of rustication.
- No student will be expelled or rusticated from a school except after giving the parent or guardian of the student a reasonable opportunity of showing cause against the proposed action, and without prior approval of the Director.
- Expulsion or rustication shall be resorted to only in cases of gross offences where the retention of the student in the school is likely-to endanger its moral tone of discipline.
General Rules of the Higher Secondary School
We have no Corporal Punishment policy. Our approach of addressing concerning behavioral problems is through the use of inquiry, Counseling, motivation and inspection.
Discipline Rule
- Students are responsible to the school authorities not only for their conduct in school but also for their general behavior outside the school campus. Any pupil who is persistently insubordinate or is repeatedly or willfully mischievous or is guilty of malpractices in connection with examinations or has committed an act of serious indiscipline or misbehavior, or who, in the opinion of the Principal has an unwholesome influence on his fellow-pupil, may be expelled permanently or removed for a specified period by the Principal from the rolls and the reasons thereof recorded.
- Students are forbidden to bring any valuables/articles to school.
- Students should not litter the premises, classrooms and laboratories with papers, eatables, etc. or throwing them out of windows. Dustbins should be used for this purpose.
- Students shall not be permitted to post any objectionable material regarding the institution, staff members or any fellow students on the internet and other forms of social media including and not restricted to mobile phone application based messaging media such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. If found guilty, Police complaint will be filed, parents will be informed, undertaking will be taken from the student, student will be expelled.
- Students are prohibited from bringing bikes to the institution as per the circular issued by the Directorate of Education vide Circular no. Acad/Road safety/Misc/ 2016/503 dated. 23/02/2021.
- Students are to work diligently not only on assigned daily class work, homework, projects and others but also have regular self-revision in order to ensure quality work is produced.
- The School reserves the right to confiscate any items that are prohibited.
Attendance
- Attendance of students at lectures will be watched very strictly. If a Student remains absent even a single lecture without permission, he/she will be treated as absent for the whole day.
- Long absence from School could be permitted on prior approval from the Class teacher & Principal.
- Absence on medical grounds has to be accompanied by a medical certificate from a medical practitioner.
- If the Student is absent for 2 or more consecutive days, he or she will have to be accompanied by the parents in the absence of a medical certificate and if a student remains absent for more than 3 weeks without prior application for leave of absence, his/her name will be struck off the rolls. In cases of grave illnesses / accident – parent has to ensure that a letter is sent to the principal informing of the situation within a week.
- Students who leave the premises without permission during the school hours will have to be accompanied by the parents on the following day failing which they will not be allowed to attend the lectures.
- Students are discouraged to leave their class between lectures for trifling reasons like drinking water or using the cloak room, etc.
- Adherence to the school calendar and punctuality to school spells success for later life.
- Students are to attend all the academic programmes, co-curricular activities, school functions and other school related programmes.
Uniform
- Uniform colour and pattern as prescribed in the school handbook.
Any violation with respect to the uniform, the student will not be permitted to attend classes until he/she comes with prescribed uniform (Parents will be called in the School).
- Students should report to school in clean and well-pressed school uniform. It is also compulsory to wear blue shoes (canvas) and white socks and during monsoon black sandals for girls and boys. Non adherence of the rules will be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 50/- and the receipt for the same will be issued.
Identity Cards
Every student shall have an Identity Card which he/she shall wear with at all time in the school campus. Any student found not wearing Identity Card will be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 50/- .
Hairstyle: as mentioned in the school handbook
- Hair must be groomed and in keeping with the decorum of the institution.
- All boys (Except Sikhs) should have a short, smart haircut.
- Girls hair should be neat and orderly, hair styles and colour as well as makeup is not permitted
- Any violation, parents will be called in the school & student be sent home and to be allowed to attend classes only after the necessary changes are carried out.
Forbidden Practices:
- Disfiguring or otherwise damaging any school property. Students are required to show due regard for the rights and property of the institute. Any student found guilty of tempering/damaging the property, fixtures, equipment’s, furniture, books, building, vehicles etc. of the school or on the premises (belonging to others) shall be liable to pay for replacement and/or might be liable for expulsion from the institution.
- A student coming to school under the influence of narcotics, alcohol, tobacco in any form will be dealt strictly.
- If any student is found Ragging, he/she will be expelled from the institution.
