On Friday 30th October 2020, the PTA of RMS HSS in collaboration with Sanjeevani: Life Beyond Cancer, conducted a Webinar at 2pm for students and parents on “Cancer Prevention and Healthy Lifestyle”. The reasons behind selecting the topic were October being the month dedicated to Cancer Awareness; and also the fact that COVID-19 had wrongly side-lined the harmful effects of cancer despite India ranking 3rd highest in breast cancer among Asian countries.
Mr Vinayak Angle (Chairman of RMS School Managing Committee and Second Vice President of Vidya Vikas Mandal) addressed the online gathering. PTA President Mr Wilson Gonsalves introduced Sanjeevani member Ms Somadrita Neog, who vividly explained the Sanjeevani programmes in a nutshell. Founder member of Sanjeevani Mrs Ruby Ahluvalya, who was introduced by Ms Sumki Begum, then shared her personal experience of fighting cancer and starting various programmes to uplift others still struggling in its snare. Mr Wilson Gonsalves then introduced Ms Sumki Begum (Project Coordinator of Sanjeevani), who took over the session and beautifully explained how men and women could check themselves for breast cancer. She also stressed on meditation, exercise, healthy meals and proper sleep. This was followed by a fun Quiz conducted by Ms Sumki Begum, along with declaration of the first three winners. Our Principal then led a Pledge on being a true supporter in erradicating cancer from the society.
Next, Mrs Riya Desai (Teacher Representative of the PTA) introduced our School Counsellor Ms Gail Rebello, who gave an interesting session on “Tips for Parenting during COVID-19”. She suggested how parents could spend quality time with their children, listening to them, encouraging them in various hobbies and activities, and how to maintain safety when online. Our Principal Mrs Cintia Borges e Abranches proposed the Vote of Thanks and by 4pm the PTA Secretary Ms MaryAnne R D’souza who was compeering the programme, then brought the Meet to an end.
